Prosecutor: Wildwood, NJ, Man Facing Murder Charge Following Targeted Attack
The Cape May County Prosecutor's Office says a man from Wildwood has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection to the "targeted attack" of a man in July.
37-year-old Jeremias Ortiz of Wildwood is facing first-degree murder, aggravated manslaughter, conspiracy to commit murder, and weapons charges for the death of 38-year-old Jason Ruiz, also of Wildwood.
Sutherland's office says via a post on the Wildwood Police Department's Facebook page, on July 14th, Wildwood Police responded to the 200 block of Roberts Avenue for the report of a medical emergency. There, officers found Ruiz; he was unresponsive.
An investigation involving the Wildwood Police Department and the prosecutor's office lead to the arrest of Ortiz.
Sutherland says this was a "targeted attack" and not a random act of violence.
The investigation into this incident continues. Anyone with information is urged to contact prosecutors at (609) 465-1135.
The public is reminded that all persons charged with crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
