A 39-year-old Rio Grande man was arrested after allegedly punching and choking a 14-year-old during a youth football game in Middle Township.

Middle Township Police say the incident happened on September 14th at the Clarence Davies Sports Complex in Cape May Court House.

Police say officers responded to a disturbance at the football field, and " learned that a small group of juveniles began arguing and fighting, which resulted in adult spectators becoming involved."

An investigation by the department's Major Crime Unite determined that Jermaine McNeal, 39 from Rio Grande, "was witnessed choking and punching a 14 year old juvenile several times during the physical altercation.  McNeal then became involved in a physical altercation with several adults who attempted to defuse the situation."

McNeal has been charged with:

  1. Aggravated Assault in the second degree
  2. Child Endangerment, a crime of the third degree
  3. Assault at a Youth Sporting Event, a crime of the  fourth degree.

McNeal was taken at the Cape May County Correctional Facility awaiting a bail hearing.
