School Bus, 4 Other Vehicles in Chain-reaction Crash in Egg Harbor Twp., NJ
The Egg Harbor Township Police Department is investigating a chain-reaction collision involving a school bus and several other vehicles Tuesday morning in West Atlantic City.
The accident happened around 8:45 on the Black Horse Pike near Bayport One.
According to police, a 2010 Honda CRV being driven by 26-year-old Yamilet Lora-Salazar of Ventnor was traveling westbound in the inside lane on the Pike, approaching stopped traffic waiting for a school bus to on-load students.
- A 2012 Chevrolet Impala, operated by Sharmaine Scott, 46, of Atlantic City, was stopped in traffic to observe the stopped school bus.
- A 2018 Chevrolet Camaro, operated by Christopher Collins, 33, of Somers Point, was stopped in traffic in front of the Impala.
- A 2020 Nissan Rogue, operated by Timothy Tran, 24, of Atlantic City, was stopped in traffic in front of the Camaro.
- A 2015 Bluebird school bus was stopped in the outside lane with red warnings light flashing and stop sign extended to on-load student passengers.
Police say the approaching Honda failed to stop, resulting in a rear-end impact with the Impala.
The collision forced the Impala into the back of the Camaro, forcing the Camaro in the back of the Rogue. The Honda continued forward into the outside lane and impacted the rear of the school bus.
Scott was taken to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center-City Campus with non-life-threatening injuries.
No students were injured in the collision.
Traffic on the Black Horse Pike was detoured for approximately an hour and a half while the scene was being investigated.
Lora-Salazar was cited for careless driving.
