Stockton University Rowing Will Honor Legends Holland & Peterson
Friday, March 25, 2022, at 7:00 p.m., Stockton University will honor local rowing legends Dr. John Holland and Sue Peterson at the “Rowing & Growing with The Ospreys” event at the Stockton University Atlantic City campus.
Dr. Holland was the founder of the iconic Viking Rowing Club in Ventnor. This club has been integral in promoting and teaching the sport of Rowing for decades.
Now known as the Viking Rowing Foundation, it has taught thousands of rowers, as young as 10 years old through master rowers.
The boathouse was named in memory of Dr. Holland and it also serves as the home for several area high schools.
Holland’s son, Ward, is an original member of the club and currently serves as vice president of the Viking Rowing Foundation.
Sue Peterson is the former president of the Southern New Jersey Scholastic Rowing Association.
Peterson has also served on the board of directors, as a coach and regatta director for the Atlantic County Rowing Association for more than 29 years.
Peterson is also one of the first participants for the girls crew program at Atlantic City High School.
“The rowing programs in South Jersey would not be as successful as they are without Doc Holland and Sue Peterson and their decades of support,” said Stockton Rowing Coach John Bancheri. “We are thrilled to recognize their contributions and help continue their legacies.”
The event will be held in the John F. Scarpa Academic Center, 3711 Atlantic Avenue, Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Tickets and sponsorships are available, starting at $250 per couple. For more event information, go to stockton.edu/rowingevent.
