This week begins NJDOT's annual spring litter removal campaign where crews will be on the side of state roadways picking up trash, mowing grass, and pruning trees.

There was an 18-month heads-up. But compliance with New Jersey's ban on single-use plastic bags — and paper bags in many instances — may not be 100%.

Shops of all sizes will be blocked from handing out or selling single-use plastic bags at checkout. Supermarkets larger than 2,500 square feet will also be blocked from distributing or selling paper bags.
