They Would Wait In Line In Atlantic City, NJ For Lobsters & More
Atlantic City, New Jersey has been the home of so many tremendous restaurants and department stores over the many years.
Some of them were open for more than 100 years and a few are still open, today.
DOCK’S OYSTER HOUSE
The above photos are from Dock’s as it was in 1952. People would regularly wait in line to dine there and Dock’s openly advertised that …
There must be a good reason why folks will stand in line to say "They had dinner at Dock's" Join the line and you'll know why!
Dock’s has been open since 1897 and it’s still open and thriving today. That’s more than 125 years.
KNIFE & FORK INN
The above Knife & Fork advertisement is from 1961. Look at those prices.
This iconic establishment first opened in 1912 by the infamous “Commodore" Louis Kuehnle.
On the eve of prohibition in 1927, New York City Hotelier Milton Latz transformed it into an exclusive dining room that catered to the very wealthy.
It remains open today under The Dougherty Family, who also own Dock’s, The Knife & Fork Inn, Dougherty’s Restaurant and Raw Bar at Resorts Casino Hotel and The Linwood Country Club.
CAPTAIN STARN’S
Captain Starn’s is one of my very favorite all-time establishments, opening its massive facility in 1940.
The advertisement above is from July, 1952 when they announced that 8,000 pounds of lobster would go on sale for .50 cents per-pound.
Captain Starn’s offered a restaurant, fleet of fishing and speed boats.
HACKNEY’S RESTAURANT
Hackney’s Restaurant opened in 1912 and grew to be a 3,200 seat dining establishment.
It first opened as a clam shack and grew to such elegant prominence.
SEAFOOD 2112 BAR, DUTCH KITCHEN & McGEE’S BAR & RESTAURANT
The above advertisement covers all 3 of these fine establishments in 1948.
GARWOOD MILLS
Garwood Mills closed it doors forever in 1976. It was a great department that seemed to have everything you needed or wanted.
CARSON’S TRIANGLE CAFE & BAR
I have always loved buildings that are built at a corner, creating a triangle appearance.
Carson’s was located on North New Hampshire Avenue & Grammercy Place.
The were famous for their French fried lobster tail, French fried shrimp and discounted adult beverages.
Directly below, we have photo galleries featuring listener and reader cell phone photos of their favorite food items, along with great area restaurants.
This iconic restaurant burnt to the ground 1976.
Bon appétit.
