A Tuckerton man, wanted for shooting another man in Little Egg Harbor Township, has been taken into custody in Atlantic City.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer says Donald Rutter, 61, of Tuckerton had been on the loose since attempted murder charges were filed against him early this month. Authorities say that on the evening of  January 5th, it was Rutter who shot Thomas Jarvis in the midsection. The incident happened at Jarvis Marine on Radio Road.

Jarvis was rushed to the hospital and treated. He's been released from the hospital and is said to be recovering from his injuries.

According to Billhimer, an exhaustive search of the surrounding area after the shooting failed to locate Rutter. A warrant was later issued for his arrest.

Billhimer says Rutter was located in Atlantic City on Thursday and taken into custody without incident by the United States Marshal Service. Rutter is currently being held in the Ocean County Jail, pending a court appearance.

Billhimer made this statement:

I am extremely thankful for the outstanding teamwork exhibited by all the law enforcement agencies involved in locating Rutter. This is a prime example of law enforcement at its best, with our partners at the local, county, state, and federal levels coming together - working tirelessly for more than three weeks - to capture a fugitive from justice. Their collaboration and perseverance certainly paid off today, as Rutter is now lodged in the Ocean County Jail.

Billhimer acknowledged the many law enforcement agencies that have been involved in the case.
