A Galloway man has been arrested following a Sunday night incident where he fled from police and crashed a stolen van into a tree before running from authorities.

Just before 9:00 Sunday night, a Galloway Township police officer stopped a minivan on Route 9 and Seaview Ridge Drive. According to a press release, the driver sped-off as the officer approached the vehicle. That van eventually crashed into a tree at Jimmie Leeds Road and New Leaf Court and the driver fled into the woods, which initiated a large-scale search involving several law enforcement agencies.

A follow-up investigation has led to the arrest of 38-year-old Eric Von Hess of Galloway. Von Hess has been charged with eluding police and he was lodged at the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Police say Von Hess was previously arrested by the Galloway Township Police Department for eluding in September, 2016.
