Victim in Egg Harbor Twp., NJ, Fatal Hit-and-run Identified as Police Appeal For Help
The victim in last week's fatal hit-and-run crash on the Black Horse Pike in West Atlantic City has been identified as police continue to search for the driver.
The crash, which happened around 6:40 Thursday evening, November 9th, near the intersection with Bayport Drive, claimed the life of 65-year-old Llewellyn Stewart of Ventnor, according to the Egg Harbor Township Police Department.
Police say an "SUV-type vehicle" was traveling westbound on the Black Horse Pike when it struck Stewart as he was crossing the highway. The vehicle then left the scene westbound on the Pike. The victim died at the scene.
Now several days later, investigators are still looking for that vehicle that would have front-end damage and/or a damaged headlight.
Egg Harbor Township Police issued this appeal Tuesday morning:
The roadway was very dark at the time of the crash, and officers understand someone may have hit something or been involved in a crash but unsure of what they struck. If anyone was driving in the area of the Black Horse Pike leaving Atlantic City between 6:35PM and 6:45PM, and may have hit something, please know we understand. We are trying to make things right for the family of Mr. Stewart.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or is able to provide any additional information is asked to contact the EHT PD Traffic Safety Unit at (609) 926-2661. Anonymous information can be submitted to Atlantic County Crime Stoppers at (609) 652-1234.
