
67-year-old Man Killed in Vineland, NJ, Stabbing; Suspect Arrested Nearby
A Vineland man has been arrested in connection to a fatal stabbing in the city Monday morning.
27-year-old Jayron Thomas has been charged with purposeful and knowing murder, unlawful possession of a weapon/knife, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and tampering with evidence.
Police Respond to Stabbing on South East Avenue
The Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office says at about 10:30 AM on Monday, July 14th, Vineland police officers were called to the area of 771 South East Avenue for a report of a stabbing in progress.
Officers located the victim, 67-year-old Ronald Shields, who sustained numerous stab wounds and was in critical condition. He was airlifted to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Suspect Apprehended Near Scene
According to authorities, through witness descriptions, Thomas was located a short distance away from the scene and later charged with the above-listed offenses.
