Arrest in fatal hit-and-run crash in Vineland
A Vineland woman has been charged in connection to a fatal hit-and-run accident last summer.
Authorities say 30-year-old Brittany L. Riddle was arrested and charged for knowingly leaving the scene of an accident and causing the death of 60-year-old Bruce Byron, also of Vineland.
After being processed, Riddle was released on a summons pending a Superior Court appearance in Bridgeton.
Accident timeline
According to the Vineland Police Department, at about 12:30 AM on June 14th of last year, officers responded to North Delsea Drive near West Wheat Road for a report of a pedestrian that appeared to have been struck by a vehicle on the shoulder of the road. That pedestrian, Byron, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation by police revealed that a gray 2013-2015 Nissan Altima was headed northbound on Delsea Drive when it hit Byron, who was pushing a shopping cart in the northbound lane of North Delsea Drive.
Police continue investigating this accident; anyone with information is asked to contact Ofc. Christian Morales with the Vineland Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit at (856) 691-4111.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
