Pedestrian Critically Injured in Hit-and-run in Washington Twp., NJ
Cops in South Jersey are searching for the driver of a Mercedes following a hit-and-run accident over the weekend that sent a pedestrian to a local trauma center.
Hit-and-Run Incident on Route 42
The Washington Township Police Department in Gloucester County said the incident happened around 4:30 early Sunday morning, February 15th, along Route 42 near Whitman Drive.
A preliminary investigation determined that a 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class (G-Wagon) was traveling southbound on the Black Horse Pike/Route 42 and as it approached the intersection with Whitman Drive, the passenger side of the vehicle hit a pedestrian who was walking southbound along the shoulder of the roadway.
After hitting the pedestrian, the Mercedes fled the scene.
The pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries and was initially taken to Jefferson Hospital in Washington Township before being airlifted to Cooper University Hospital's Trauma Center in Camden for advanced treatment.
Police Investigation Underway
The department said they were able to use license plate reading cameras to obtain that vehicle's registration information. They did not release any of that information in a social media post.
The Black Horse Pike was closed for about two hours as the accident was investigated and cleared.
