SHIP BOTTOM — Drivers headed to Long Beach Island need to pack some patience along with the sun screen on Saturday thanks to unexpected work on the main road into town.

Traffic headed east on Route 72 was backed up on Saturday morning from the Garden State Parkway and over the Causeway because a collapsed pipe needs to be replaced at Shore Avenue at the Ship Bottom end of the bridge, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.  The road must be opened up in order to complete the repair.

The pipe collapsed following a water main break on Friday, according to Stafford police.

All traffic was shifted to the left on Saturday for the project which the DOT expects to be complete by Sunday.
