There are a number of reports that are speculating that United States Senator Robert Menendez will soon resign following his federal bribery conviction.

Many are unaware of how a United States Senate seat vacancy is handled in New Jersey?

It couldn’t be any simpler. Governor Murphy has the sole power to appoint anyone that he wishes.

This is where it gets interesting. Will Governor Murphy select Congressman Andy Kim, who is the current Democrat Nominee for the position?

I don’t think Governor Murphy, nor New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy are particularly fond of the Primary election campaign that Kim waged against Tammy Murphy.

Kim filed a very stupid legal case, which has destroyed the favorable election ballot position that formally endorsed Democrats used to receive.

If I were Governor Murphy, I would select Tammy Murphy to be the appointed United States Senator for New Jersey.

Why not appoint Tammy Murphy?  Kim doesn’t deserve it. It would give Kim a big boast in his General Election contest versus Curtis Bashaw.

Kim hasn’t earned it. Governor Murphy shouldn’t give it to him.

It’s very rare for a New Jersey Governor to have the opportunity to make a Senate appointment.

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has the opportunity to appoint Jeffrey Chiesa to the United States Senate.

Chiesa served as the 59th Attorney General of New Jersey and Chief Counsel to former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

Christie appointed Chiesa as United States Senator, where he served from January 10, 2012, until June 6, 2013.

Chiesa was The first Republican United States Senator for New Jersey since Nicholas F. Brady, who served in 1982 ... more than 42 years ago.

Chiesa did not run for the seat. He served until a new Senator was elected.

Tammy Murphy should have been the Democrat Nominee. Appointing Tammy Murphy would settle a political score versus Andy Kim.

Let’s see what Governor Murphy decides to do.
