The average Parent in the United States has an 18-hour workday. These parents spend at least nine hours at work while the rest of their days are committed to whatever their kids need.

Even though many parents are very busy, there is empirical evidence about the importance of spending time with their kids. Studies have found that the positive impacts of parents spending time with their children include improved academic performance, higher quality mental health, and those kids grow up to be more well-rounded adults.

But the research team at Preply has uncovered some concerned information about New Jersey parents compared to the rest of the United States.

Are New Jersey Parents Not Spending Enough Time With Their Kids?

Preply gathered data from the United States Census Bureau's American Time Use Survey to learn how much time parents spend with their kids.  On average, a parent in the United States spends around 1,000 Hours per year with their kids and approximately 2.5 Hours per day.

But New Jersey Parents spend the fifth fewest hours per day with their kids in the United States. NJ Parents spent an average of 514.7 hours per year with their children and 1.41 Hours per day.

Yes, your eyes do not deceive you. New Jersey parents are spending fewer hours per day with their children than the National Average. The only states where parents spend less time with their kids are:

-Vermont (1.38 Hours per Day)
-Mississippi (1.36 Hours per Day)
-New Mexico (1.22 Hours per day)
-West Virginia (1.07 Hours per day)

All of New Jersey's neighboring states have parents who spend more time with their kids. Delaware is number one in the United States with most time spent with children (3.73 Hours per Day) while Pennsylvania parents spend 2.18 Hours per day with their kids and New York is marginally ahead of NJ with 1.94 Hours per Day with their children.
