Wildwood Crest, N.J. — A Cape May County man is facing charges after an alleged robbery and assault.

The Wildwood Crest Police Department said at about 11:00 Thursday morning, its officers were called to the area of Morning Glory Road and Park Boulevard for a report of two men fighting.

At the scene, officers found one man who was suffering from multiple visible injuries to his head and upper body, redness around his neck, and signs that he was having difficulty breathing.

Authorities said an ivestigation determined that the victim had allegedly been attacked by another man, identified as 42-year-old David Cozza of Wildwood Crest.

Witness statements, video footage, and evidence gathered during the investigation indicated that the suspect allegedly placed the victim in a chokehold and attempted to remove a bag from the victim’s possession.

As a result, Cozza was taken into custody without incident and lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Facility.

He has been charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree aggravated assault.

Police said this investigation remains ongoing.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
