A 22-year-old woman with two young children is dead and a man from the Villas section of Lower Township is facing a first degree murder charge.

Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland says 25-year-old Charles A. Bland of Villas has been charged with first degree murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and hindering his own apprehension.

The Cape May County Prosecutor's Office, in a press release, says,

On Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at approximately 10:24 AM, members of the Lower Township Police Department responded to 103 East Virginia Avenue to check on the well being of Destiny Rollar, a 22 year old female and her two young children who reside at that address. Rollar was found to have a gunshot wound to the head and was airlifted to the Atlantic City Medical Center. Rollar’s children were unharmed and located at a family member’s residence in the City of Philadelphia. Sadly, later that afternoon Rollar was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Following an investigation, authorities executed search warrants on the home and two vehicles, one of which was in Philadelphia. The search warrants yielded, among other things, three hand guns and two semi-automatic rifles.

On the morning of April 11th, authorities say Bland was located in a hospital in Philadelphia where he was being treated from a non-life threatening gunshot wound that was allegedly self-inflicted.

Bland was taken into custody by Philadelphia Police and was charged with weapons offenses. Bland will be held in Philadelphia until he is extradited back to Cape May County.
