Bridgeton Police say a woman was stabbed 12 times and survived. Her alleged assailant has been arrested.

Police say they were called out to a gas station on North Pearl Street Friday night for the report of a woman being stabbed. Police say they when they arrived they found a woman bleeding from the face and head.

Cops say they were able to view surveillance video from the area and identified the assailant as Dorion Smith of Bridgeton.

Smith was quickly arrested and charged with charged with criminal attempt - homicide, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose. He was taken to the Cumberland County Jail.

The woman who was stabbed was treated at the scene and taken to Cooper Hospital. No update on her condition is available.
