The History of the Chief Arthur R. Brown Jr. Memorial Scholarship Foundation:

The Foundation was established in 1992 in honor of Arthur R. Brown, Jr., former Chief of the Atlantic City Beach Patrol.

The Foundation selects its scholarship recipients based upon scholastic achievement and demonstrated financial need.

In 1995, The Brown Foundation expanded its mission to honor William D. Fox, a former Atlantic City lifeguard and police officer, who passed away in 1994.

In 1999, the Foundation expanded further to honor the memory of Samuel "Sonny" Schwartz by donating to the Dorrington Hockey Foundation and Gilda's Club in his memory.

In 2005, the Foundation expanded once again to honor the memory of Atlantic City Police Officer Thomas J. McMeekin, who died in the line of duty.

Tom McMeekin was also a former lifeguard.

The Brown Foundation has awarded about $ 400,000 in scholarships and financial aid to individuals in the South Jersey area over the past 31 years.

The Brown Foundation has also made contributions to: SPCA, Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City, Vest-A-Cop, Hackney Swim, Atlantic County Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans, Dorrington Ice Hockey Foundation and the Atlantic City Beach Patrol Classic boat races.
