Former Executive: Atlantic City, NJ Agency is ‘Corrupt & Incompetent’

The Atlantic City Housing Authority is meeting on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. at 901 Arctic Avenue in Atlantic City, New Jersey (2nd floor).

This embattled agency is preparing to award at least 5 costly contracts to three outside contractors and two law firms.

The public will have the opportunity to speak, prior to any of these matters will be voted upon.

In a live, on-air interview with Matt Doherty, the former Atlantic City Housing Authority Executive Director described this poorly performing agency as:

Corrupt and incompetent and I’m not exaggerating or being hyperbolic, said Doherty.

One of the contracts is for a purchasing contractor, which last year cost $ 406,000.

This exorbitant amount of federal taxpayer dollars were spent, despite the fact that a full-time purchasing agent was already on the staff of the Atlantic City Housing Authority … which makes absolutely no sense.

Doherty also confirmed that the purchasing contractor approved $ 7.4 million in no bid contracts; a practice that Doherty ended when he became executive director, “because it’s not legal and you’re not allowed to do it,” said Doherty.

Two additional contracts are set to be awarded today, whereby a redevelopment contractor and project management contractor will be selected.

Two attorney’s will also be selected for general counsel and special counsel work.

United States Congressman Jeff Van Drew, R-2-NJ has been urging Marcia Fudge, United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development to step-in and replace the board and any non-performing employees.

Thus far, Fudge has taken almost no productive action whatsoever in Atlantic City.

Residents at Stanley Holmes Village have been living without heat and water … amongst rodents, insects and other unhealthy contaminants for more than two years.

Doherty will be attending this afternoon’s meeting of the Atlantic City Housing Authority.
