Bridgeton Police responded to a burglary in progress early Thursday morning, and pretty much caught two suspects red-handed.

The incident happened just after 1:30am. Police were called to the burglary at the Novedadas Espinoza Tienda Mexicana restaurant.

When officers arrived on the scene they found Hector Martinez, 46, of Bridgeton, walking away from the restaurant. He was quickly taken into custody. In the meantime, another suspect, Johnathon Carrar, 39, of Bridgeton, was spotted standing on the roof of the building.

Police say officers ordered Carrar down, but he refused, and tried running across to an adjacent roof, but failed. Ultimately, officers went on the roof and brought him down.

Police say they found that the pair had broken into the restaurant's cold storage freezer and removed frozen meat. Damage to the freezer is estimated at $2,500.

Both suspects are being held in the Cumberland County Jail.
