61-year-old Bicyclist Dies in Bridgeton Accident

Police in Bridgeton say a 61-year-old local man died from apparent injuries in a bicycle accident.

Police say the body of Mark Rugenis, Sr., was found in a wooded area just off Orchard St. near Nixon Ave. just after 5:00 AM by family members who had been searching for him after he failed to return home after working a late-night shift."

A news release states:

Chief of Police Michael Gaimari Sr., said Monday that the investigation is ongoing but that information gathered thus far from the scene and from the investigation conducted by the South Jersey Regional Medical Examiner’s Office indicate the victim ran off the roadway on a decline and sustained fatal injuries.

The incident included investigation by the department’s patrol and criminal investigation bureaus along with the accident reconstruction unit and the medical examiner’s office.
