A Gloucester County man is facing charges following an accident Sunday afternoon.

The Franklin Township Police Department says the crash happened just before 1:00 at the intersection of Swedesboro and Little Mill Roads.

According to authorities, an investigation determined that 46-year-old David Hewitt of Monroeville was driving a Dodge Ram pickup on Little Mill Road when he failed to stop at the stop sign at Swedesboro Road. That's where he struck a Ford F-350 being driven by a 34-year-old man, identified by police as "Gregorian," from Clayton, who was traveling eastbound on Swedesboro Road.

Gregorian's vehicle overturned and he was heavily entrapped inside the truck, but was eventually freed and taken to Cooper Hospital in critical but stable condition.

Police say Hewitt, "who displayed signs of being intoxicated on scene," was taken to Inspira Hospital in Mullica Hill where a superior court judge authorized a search warrant to obtain a blood sample to test for intoxicants.

Hewitt has been charged with assault by auto, driving while intoxicated, driving while suspended, and additional motor vehicle-related offenses.

Once released from a hospital, Hewitt will be held in the Salem County Correctional Facility.

This accident is being investigated by Ofc. Larry Holdcraft and Det. Dylan Colclough with the Franklin Township Police Department.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
