The accident happened around 8:45 in the area of Whitesville Road and Jumping Brook Drive in Toms River, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

An investigation determined Howard Dasheff of Brooklyn, NY, was wearing dark-colored clothing while attempting to cross Whitesville Road outside of a crosswalk when he was struck by a 2021 Chevrolet Camaro being driven by 22-year-old Scott McIvor, Jr., of Jackson Township.
