9 arrested, 104 summonses issued Friday night in Franklin Twp., NJ
One police department in Gloucester County had a very productive DWI checkpoint late Friday night.
That checkpoint, which was announced five days earlier on social media, was set up at the intersection of Route 47 and County Route 612 / Williamstown Road in Franklin Township.
In a press release, the Franklin Township Police Department said, "DWI checkpoints are an effective way of detecting persons who drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs and educating them on the dangers of their decision."
And that one was.
From 10:00 late Friday night to 2:00 early Saturday morning, officials said out of the 239 vehicles that passed through, there were,
- 4 DWI arrests
- 3 warrant arrests
- 1 arrest for narcotics
- 1 arrest for possession of a handgun
In addition, cops issued 104 summonses.
The names of those arrested were not released by authorities.
The Franklin Township Police Department remarked that they are, "committed to working together with the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office and New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety to ensure the safety of our residents and reducing serious and fatal motor vehicle crashes within Franklin Township that can result from intoxicated drivers."
