Absecon Man Indicted on Aggravated Manslaughter Charges for Fatal Crash in 2020
An Absecon man has been indicted on a first degree aggravated manslaughter charge in connection to a crash in April, 2020, that claimed the life of a woman from Galloway.
Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner says 39-year-old Keneet Camacho was indicted by a grand jury on aggravated manslaughter (first degree), leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death (second degree), assault by auto (third degree), and causing death while unlicensed/suspended (third degree) charges.
The crash that Camacho was involved in killed 48-year-old Janel Bembry.
Tyner's office says,
On April 20, 2020, at approximately 7:58 am, the Galloway Township Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash on Wrangleboro Road, just north of Walden Way. An investigation showed a 2016 Hyundai Elantra was traveling south on Wrangleboro Road when it was struck from behind by a 2016 Toyota Highlander. The impact projected the Hyundai vehicle into the oncoming lane where it was struck head-on by a 2014 Honda CRV traveling north. The driver of the Hyundai vehicle, Janel Bembry, 48, of Galloway Township, was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. The driver of the Honda CRV, Gail Schifris, 61, was transported to Atlanticare Medical Center City Division for treatment of serious bodily injuries. The driver of the Toyota Highlander, Camacho, fled the scene of the crash and was located by Galloway Township Police officers in the area of Great Creek and Pitney Road.
Camacho remains in custody at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
