Galloway Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run, DWI Crash Monday Morning
A Galloway Township was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Wrangleboro Road Monday morning.
According to Galloway Township Police, just before 8:00 Monday morning a SUV being driven by 38-year-old Keneet Camacho of Absecon was traveling southbound on Wrangleboro Road when it struck the rear of a vehicle being driven by 48-year-old Janel Bembry of Galloway. That impact caused Bembry's vehicle to enter the northbound lane where it hit a SUV being driven by 61-year-old Gail Schifris of Galloway head-on.
Police say the SUV fled the scene, continuing southbound on Wrangleboro Road, but it was quickly intercepted by officers on Great Creek Road.
Bembry was taken to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center–Mainland but she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Schifris was also taken to ARMC-Mainland for treatment of serious injuries.
Camacho has been charged criminally with leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash and being an unlicensed driver involved in a fatal motor vehicle crash. Camacho was also charged with DWI and several motor vehicle violations. The collision remains under investigation with additional charges pending.
