Some good news to report: a situation Tuesday evening in Ocean County that involved an armed barricaded man ended peacefully.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office says at about 6:45, Berkeley Township police officers were called to a home on Whitaker Drive after receiving a 9-1-1 call about a medical emergency.

Man Locked Himself in Bedroom with a Gun

Cops at the scene learned that a 50-year-old man, who was reported to be having a mental health issue, had locked himself in his bedroom with a gun.

Initial efforts to talk to the man were unsuccessful and homes in the area were evacuated as a precaution.

Ocean County SWAT Team Negotiates Peaceful Surrender

The Ocean County Regional SWAT Team was deployed and negotiations began with the man to surrender, which he did at around 9:30, without incident.

The unidentified man was not hurt and was taken to a local medical facility for evaluation.
