Matt Doherty announced on-air with us this morning, Tuesday, October 24, 2023 that “people are suffering” right now in Atlantic City.

This is a direct comment about the current, substandard living conditions at the Stanley Holmes Village apartments and other public housing units within Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Doherty believes that he was fired as Executive Director on September 7, 2023 by the Atlantic City Housing Authority Board because he was in the process of exposing their financial wrongdoing.

Doherty will continue to receive his full salary (based on $ 160,000 per-year) through the end of 2023. This is because the Atlantic City Housing Authority Board fired him by “choice” and not for “cause.”

Case in point, a full time purchasing agent was hired at $ 100,000 per-year to handle these duties.

According to Doherty, the Atlantic City Housing Authority Board will not allow their own designated purchasing agent to act as a purchasing agent.

Instead, Doherty confirmed that the Atlantic City Housing Authority board paid $ 400,000 per year to an outside contractor to handle these duties.

To further add insult to injury … the Atlantic City Housing Authority Board now pays this contractor $ 511,000 per year to be the purchasing agent, according to Doherty.

Doherty has filed litigation against the Atlantic City Housing Authority Board and numerous individuals. It is the first time he has ever filed litigation “in my 50 years of life,” said Doherty.

I asked Doherty regarding the likelihood that residents of the Stanley Holmes Village apartments will once again experience disruption in terms of no heat or hot water this upcoming winter.

Doherty guaranteed that this will be the case.

I asked Doherty what can be done to fix these basic problems that the Atlantic City Housing Authority Board has neglected for years.

Doherty said that a Judge should be appointed to take control of the Atlantic City Housing Authority Board.

Doherty confirmed that the United States Housing & Urban Development has formally designated the Atlantic City Housing Authority as a “troubled agency.” That is just one final step from their formal dissolution.

All people of good faith must come together. The residents of Stanley Holmes Village apartments and other public housing residents must be provided with basic HVAC services for the fast approaching winter season.
