
Atlantic City Man Gets 6 Years After Storefront Shooting
Atlantic City, N.J. — An Atlantic City man is headed to prison after a shooting outside a convenience store last year.
On Monday, 23-year-old Rakiy Newsome was sentenced to an aggregate term of six years in state prison on charges of second-degree possession of a firearm for unlawful purposes, second-degree aggravated assault, and second-degree certain persons not to possess a handgun.
He'll need to serve about five years before becoming eligible for parole.
ShotSpotter Alert
The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said on February 13th, 2025, the Atlantic City Police Department responded to a ShotSpotter alert of ten rounds fired in the area of 644 N. New York Avenue.

Police located a crime scene at the New York Grocery and Deli. Broken glass from the shooting struck an employee in the face before he ran for cover.
Through the investigation, police identified Newsome on surveillance video pointing a handgun in the direction of multiple patrons who were inside the New York Grocery and Deli.
He was arrested on February 22nd, 2025, and has been in the Atlantic County Justice Facility since that time.
