A once undisputed “Boss” of Atlantic City and Atlantic County, New Jersey was married in an iconic church that is now set to be torn down in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Enoch "Nucky" Johnson, who was the crime boss and former Sheriff of Atlantic County was married in the First Presbyterian Church of Atlantic City.

It dates back to 1885. In later years, it was called the Victory First Presbyterian Deliverance Church.

The church suffered significant same in 2012 because of Super Storm Hurricane Sandy.

It now sits abandoned at the corner of Pennsylvania and Pacific Avenues in Atlantic City.

According to Wikipedia, “In 1906, Johnson married his teenage sweetheart, Mabel Jeffries, of Mays Landing,” at the First Presbyterian Church of Atlantic City.

A year before that, "Nucky Johnson became his father's undersheriff in Mays Landing. In 1908, he was elected Sheriff of Atlantic County when his father's term expired, a position he held untill ousted by a court order in 1911,” according to Wikipedia.

The hit HBO television series brought Nucky Johnson back to life in “The Boardwalk Empire.”

The television series is based upon the 2002 book of the same title, written by Nelson Johnson.

Actor Steve Buscemi played the title role of “Nucky Thompson,” they changed the last name for the television series.

The beautiful church was also the former home to Sister Jean Webster kitchen, which has fed the homeless for decades in Atlantic City.

This iconic building will destroyed to make room for a cannabis retailer.

The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority has passed a resolution and supports a cannabis dispensary to operate on the former church property.

Nucky Johnson is buried in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey.
