Atlantic City, NJ, Police Officer is Charged with Sexual Assault
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that an Atlantic City, New Jersey Police Officer has been criminally charged as follows:
On Thursday, April 3, 2025, Atlantic City Police Officer Joshua Munyon, 24, from Egg Harbor Township, NJ, was charged with first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault, second-degree Sexual Assault, and second-degree Official Misconduct, said the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
This dates back to September 13, 2024, when an adult female (initials “A.L.”), reported that she was sexually assaulted by Munyon.
She directly reported the allegations to the Atlantic City Police Department.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office also confirmed that the alleged victim had “multiple contacts with him earlier that morning during his official capacity as a uniformed police officer,” said the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, Munyon served “AL” with a summons for allegedly being intoxicated at the Tropicana Atlantic City.
The allegation is that Munyon drove “AL” to a Tropicana parking lot, where he has been accused of sexually assaulting her.
“AL” reported injuries; wrists and chipped toe nails during the alleged sexual assault inside the police vehicle.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said that Munyon transported “A.L.” back to the Tropicana after the assault.
“AL” reported what happened to Tropicana security staff, which then brought the Atlantic City Police Department into the matter.
Detectives from the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit were called-in.
A further investigation has produced video surveillance which appears to corroborate “AL” statements.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office have revealed that Munyon denied to hus supervisors that “A.L.” was ever under arrest or inside his police vehicle.
The video evidence appears to contradict Munyon’s assertion here, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Munyon is being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility … where the next steps will be a First Appearance and detention hearing.
