Atlantic City, NJ Residents Mount Opposition to Housing Authority

The many years-long, underserved residents of the Stanley Holmes Village have had quite enough of the non-performance of the Atlantic City, New Jersey Housing Authority.

They are mounting their own offensive attack in the form of a citizens petition.

Residents of the Stanley Holmes Village Apartments have been living for years without heat, hot water, proper cooking facilities … amidst rodent and insect infestation.

The dereliction of duty by the Mayor of Atlantic City and his local housing authority board has been a public disgrace.

The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development is all over the Atlantic City Housing Authority for their consistently poor performance.

Here are the basics, as shared directly from the Atlantic City petitioners, as follows:

Petition Summary and Background

Condition of Stanley Holmes Village Units: Located in Villages 1, 2 and 3. Lack of heat and hot water, gas leaks and other dangerous conditions; rodent infestation and mold. Continued exposure to mold has resulted in residents developing respiratory conditions as well as other medical complications. Some of these same conditions (or similar) are prevalent in other Atlantic City Housing Authority (ACHA) properties/sites hence other projects/sites are joining us in this petition.

ACHA has failed to live up to its responsibility of being a responsible landlord and continues to expose residents and their families to dangers involving their health, safety and welfare".

The above conditions as well as the deterioration of HUD/ACHA properties could have been substantially averted by ACHA conducting their HUD mandated periodie routine unit inspections!!!

The City of Atlantic City has had countless millions of dollars at its disposal to fix all of the problems … and they have simply refused to do their job.

United States Congressman Jeff Van Drew has been relentless about getting the residents of the Stanley Holmes Village Apartments the help that they need and deserve.

This positive and proactive Atlantic City citizen uprising is long overdue.
