In an exclusive on-air interview, Atlantic County Republican Party Chairman Don Purdy tore into Democratic County Commissioner challenger Hector Tavarez.

Tavarez is challenging incumbent Atlantic County Commissioner Andrew Parker, who is running for re-election to his 3rd District seat.

The Purdy interview took place on Thursday, October 19, 2023 during the 9:00 a.m. hour on WPG Talk Radio 95.5

Specifically, Purdy outline in detail, allegations about Tavarez in his position as Executive Directive of the Egg Harbor Township PAL.

Purdy pointed out that the Egg Harbor Township PAL is not affiliated with the Police Athletic League.

It is also not directly affiliated with the Egg Harbor Township municipal government

it is a separated registered not-for-profit entity, which is operating under the name “Police Activities League.”

Purdy detailed activities which he stated shows that Tavarez has commingled the not-for-profit organization with other matters.

For example, Purdy stated:

“His son bought the piece of property next-door to the PAL building on Ridge Avenue in a bank foreclosure and took half the property and did a lease with PAL and let them use the back half for commercial use,” said Purdy.

“You cannot take a residential piece of property and get to use it in this manner without going through the Zoning Board, including the Pinelands Commission,”said Purdy.

Here is some information regarding the piece of property that Purdy is talking about:

It remains to be seen if Egg Harbor Township intends to review Purdy’s allegations.

Purdy was also highly critical of Tavarez’ annual salary for running a not-for-profit organization; along with various fringe benefits.

Purdy’s review of annual Tavarez tax documents puts Tavarez’ annual total compensation in the $ 250,000 range.

The General Election Day is Tuesday, November 7, 2023. There is early buying that will take place for 9 days between October 28, 2023 through October 5, 2023.
