Best Spaghetti Sauce in a Jar in the Atlantic City, NJ Area (Photos)
This was a fun assignment, as I polled listeners, readers, friends and family member foodies … asking them to share the best spaghetti sauce in a jar that you can purchase in the Atlantic City, New Jersey area.
I realize that for traditionalists, this topic is basically a high insult. However, many, most have poured their pasta sauce out of a jar during their lifetime.
Towards this end:
Sam Fiocchi wrote, ”It's almost sacrilege for an Italian American to use gravy from a jar but this stuff is pretty good.”Sam is referring to Rao’s.The runaway winner in our informal survey is Rao’s Homemade sauce, available in various flavors. Here’s an example: |
Whitney Ullman wrote, “I love Rao's too! But Carmine's Italian Restaurant - Atlantic City Tomato Basil and Marinara are really good!!” |
No list is complete without Ragú, which has been around for 87 years.
Ragú spaghetti sauce was first sold in 1937 by the Ragú Packing Company, which was founded by Assunta Cantisano and her husband Giovanni.
Here is Ragú Old World Style Traditional Sauce:
Dori Masterman Levari says, “Viseglia's hands down is the best. It's made in Berlin from jersey tomatoes. ShopRite and Tilton Market sell it all year round. The absolute best.”Dori is a great baker, who makes various sour dough breads, bagels and other baked goods. |
Mary Holbrook Lash wrote, "Carbones roasted garlic is sooo good!” |
Carbones is also available in different flavors:
Bob Wode submitted, “Mia Cucina, Local NJ tomatoes.”
The above mentioned, along with Bertolli, Classico and Michael’s of Brooklyn are also available locally, or, at Amazon.com
