Swimmer Found Dead After Search at Buena Vista Township, NJ, Quarry
Buena Vista Township, N.J. — A search for a swimmer who disappeared in a quarry in Buena Vista Township over the Fourth of July weekend ended in tragedy after the victim's body was recovered on Monday, according to New Jersey State Police.
Troopers responded to a reported drowning at a quarry near John Quigley Park on Cains Mill Road at about 6:30 PM Sunday.
Authorities said search and rescue operations continued Sunday evening but were unable to locate the victim before darkness and inclement weather forced crews to suspend the effort.

Multi-agency Search Ends With Recovery on Monday
Search operations resumed on Monday and the victim's body was located at the bottom of the quarry and removed from the water, State Police said in a statement to Townsquare Media.
The victim's identity has not been released, and the investigation remains active.

Hidden Hazards
In a Facebook post Monday evening, the Collings Lakes Fire Department said the recovery followed an extensive multi-agency search involving state troopers and several regional dive teams.
Following the tragedy, the department reminded the public that swimming in quarries and blue holes can be deadly.
It can not be stressed enough how dangerous quarries and blue holes like this one are, and under no circumstances should anyone be swimming in them. They look inviting, but just under the surface are many dangers people are not aware of. Even one tragedy is one too many, and we all must do our part in preventing them.
Dangers of swimming in quarries and blue holes include drastic changes in water temperature, submerged hazards, sharp drop-offs, pollution, and a lack of quick access to emergency services.
