A Burlington County man will be well into his 70s before he may see the outside of a prison after being sentenced for killing a man.

Last Friday, 25-year-old Lesure Funari of Burlington City was sentenced to 60 years behind bars for a fatal shooting in Camden in the fall of 2021.

Funari was found guilty back in June of first-degree murder and related weapons charges.

On the night of November 28th, 2021, the Camden County Police Department received a ShotSpotter activation for ten rounds fired in the area of the 1000 block of Lois Avenue in Camden. At the scene, officers found Takwail Bailey, who had been shot multiple times, lying in a parking lot outside of an apartment building.

Bailey was taken to Cooper University Hospital where he was pronounced dead minutes later.

During an investigation, detectives obtained surveillance video footage that captured the homicide.

The video captured Funari exiting a black Ford F-150 truck parked across the street, approaching the victim, and shooting him multiple times. Funari then returned to the truck and fled. Detectives tracked the truck on video to and from the crime scene. Based on surveillance video footage and other evidence, Funari was identified as the person responsible for shooting Bailey.

Funari was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service at a home in Camden on January 7th, 2022.

Under the No Early Release Act, Funari must serve 85 percent of his 60-year sentence before being considered for parole. He would be 76 years old by that time.

The state was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Spittal of the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit. The case was investigated by Sergeant Andy McNeil of the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office along with Lieutenant Gordon Harvey of the Camden County Police Department and retired Sergeant Shawn Donlon of the Camden County Police Department.
