55 Traffic Stops in Cape May County as Summer Enforcement Ends

Cape May Court House, N.J. — A summer-long effort to keep some of Cape May County's busiest roads safe has ended, with law enforcement agencies making hundreds of traffic stops and issuing dozens of summonses and arrests during five coordinated operations.

The final operation was held Friday, August 28th, when officers from ten law enforcement agencies conducted traffic enforcement along Route 147 and Route 47 South, from the George Redding Bridge to Route 9.

Officers made 55 motor vehicle stops, issued 18 summonses, and arrested two people on outstanding warrants.

The SHIELD Task Force — "Safety on Highways through Intensive Enforcement and Law Enforcement Deployment" — was established by Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland to allow officers to conduct enforcement beyond their normal municipal boundaries.

The task force focuses on roads identified as high-risk based on traffic data, with officers looking for speeding and impaired, distracted, and aggressive driving.
