Authorities in Cape May County say a car-bicycle accident in Stone Harbor claimed the life of a 50-year-old woman Saturday morning.
Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffery Sutherland and Stone Harbor Police Chief Thomas J. Schutta have announced that their offices are investigating the accident that happened just before 9:30AM Saturday on 87th Street and First Avenue.
According to a news release, "a Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by an 18 year-old woman from Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, was traveling northbound on First Avenue while a 50-year-old woman from Wilmington, Delaware was riding a bicycle eastbound on the 100 Block of 87th Street." The car and the bicycle collided in the intersection.
Police say the driver of the Jeep stopped immediately and emergency personnel responded to the scene. The woman on the bike was life-flighted to the hospital in Atlantic City but later died from her injuries.
Authorities have not released the names of either woman involved.
An investigation is underway, and no charges have been filed.
