An adult and three teenagers are facing charges in Delaware in connection with a case involving a stolen vehicle, a police chase, and a stolen gun.

Delaware State Police say the scene unfolded just before 10:00 Thursday morning, April 23rd, a trooper was patrolling Route 1 near School House Road, in New Castle, when he saw a Kia Sportage traveling southbound at a high rate of speed. The trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop, at which point the driver accelerated and refused to stop. The trooper initially pursued the vehicle, but the pursuit was discontinued due to public safety concerns.

A short time later, troopers searching for that vehicle in the area of Route 1 near Middletown-Odessa Road saw it approach at a high rate of speed, hit a tractor-trailer, and overturn in the center median. Troopers responded and took the four occupants into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported.

Authorities said a search of the Kia resulted in the recovery of a loaded handgun that was reported to be stolen from Alabama. Additionally, a computer check showed that the Kia had been reported stolen by the Dover Police Department.

24-year-old Xavier Lamour, of Dover, DE, has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Receiving a Stolen Firearm (Felony)
  • Receiving Stolen Property (Felony)
  • Disregarding a Police Officer Signal (Felony)
  • Related Traffic Offenses

Three teenagers, ages 15 and 16, all from Delaware, are also facing similar charges.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
