My dear friend Tom Cantone shared with me over the weekend, the most comprehensive survey that I have ever read on the topic of “How Safe Is Atlantic City, New Jersey?”

I was previously unaware of its existence.

The survey was conducted by TravelSafe-Abroad.com … it is incredibly through product … they even reference WPG Talk Radio 95.5 and an interview that I did with Atlantic County Prosecutor Will Reynolds on this important topic.

Here is exactly how this portion reads in the TravelSafe-Abroad.com analysis.

“Atlantic County, New Jersey Prosecutor Will Reynolds told (Harry Hurley) WPG radio, "The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office is creating a working group of law enforcement agencies at the local, county, state, and federal level to address violent crime in both Atlantic City and the rest of Atlantic County.”

“This will be a game changer for law enforcement that will include targeted investigation and targeted prosecution."

“Reynolds also noted that there's a huge crackdown on illegal drug sales.”

“He walked the boardwalk a few times in plain clothes and said he was approached numerous times to buy drugs.”

So... How Safe Is Atlantic City Really?

The writer said, “I was actually excited to dive into the crime data in Atlantic City and was surprised with what I found.”

The writer means that he was pleasantly surprised at what he saw when he dug into the crime statistics.

First, the bad news:

The violent rate in Atlantic City is 28% higher than the national average.

However, it has dropped 350% since 2011.

In 2021, 24% of violent crimes were against strangers.

The Atlantic City Police Department implemented a full court press, crime initiative in late 2022. It’s making a positive difference.

His does Atlantic City compare with other jurisdictions? This TravelSafe-Abroad.com graphic tells the story:

The survey advises to avoid these places in Atlantic City;

”You should definitely stay in the tourist area and don't wander too far off that path, especially at night.”

“Casinos have some of the best security on the planet, so everything will be seen by "the eye in the sky."

Also, “avoid walking down dark alleys or stumbling around intoxicated by yourself.”

In a sobering overall assessment, this is the TravelSafe-Abroad.com conclusion:

“There are a lot of thefts, car break-ins, and violent attacks.”

They site one incident that we actually broke the story in real time when it occurred.

In January 2023, a 67-year-old woman was walking down the boardwalk when a man violently attacked her with a brick wrapped in a tee shirt.

The attack was completely unprovoked. The woman was visiting from Pennsylvania. Had a Good Samaritan not bravely intervened … she likely would have been murdered.

The survey reads: “This is a town that is really improving its crime rates but still has a long way to go before it's going to get a low-risk ranking from this website.

“Be careful at all times here, especially after dark.”
