GLOUCESTER CITY — An teen under the influence of drugs passed out as she drove with a child on a South Jersey highway Sunday night, police said.

State Police spokesman Alejandro Goez said a 17-year-old girl from New Jersey was with 19-year-old Richard Vanhise of Delanco on the 42 Freeway around 9:40 p.m. near Interstate 295 in Gloucester City when their vehicle crashed.

The investigation into what caused the teen to lose control in ongoing, but no other vehicle was involved, Goez said. The girl was a licensed driver.

The relationship of the child to Vanhise and the girl was not disclosed.

Goez said the girl was arrested and charged with being criminally under the influence. Vanhise was arrested on a charge of illegal possession of a prescription. Both were released.

No one in the car was injured. according to Goez.
