Dog Pageant in Cape May City, NJ: A Great Annual Tradition
We have found the answer to the elusive question, “Who let the dogs out?”
It’s Curtis Bashaw and the Cape Resorts, renowned 7th Annual “Doggie Pageant.”
On Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., the 2024 Rusty Nail Doggie Pageant took place in Cape May City, New Jersey.
The winner becomes the official Rusty Nail Dog Mascot.
Curtis Bashaw, Principal Owner, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Cape Resorts, (Congress Hall, The Virginia, The Beach Shack, The Pridwin, Beach Plum Farm) is well known for his creativity in staging fun, family-friendly special events.
People just love their dogs and this annual event is greatly anticipated and incredibly well received.
The Beach Shack, which is directly adjacent to The Rusty Nail restaurant is pet friendly … giving humans a place to vacation together in Cape May City with their beloved pet family members.

The top vote-getters competed in three thrilling categories:
- Best Style
- Top Trick
- Musical Chairs.
At the end of the day, only one dog was collared as champion and took home the grand prize of a $250 Rusty Nail Gift Card plus a bark-worthy doggie gift basket full of goodies.
Oliver (photographed above with the winner’s check) is a three-year-old Cavachon, pictured along with his owner, Natalie Gross from Montgomeryville, Pennsylvania.

As usual, with Bashaw, he’s always giving back to the community, with the proceeds of the annual The Rusty Nail Doggie Pageant benefiting The Animal Outreach of Cape May County.
This important not for profit organization raises funds and promotes initiatives to provide shelter, care and love for the unwanted, abused and/or abandoned animals of Cape May County.
It was a howling, good time.
