Eagles’ Joe Ostman to Injured Reserve With Torn ACL

PHILADELPHIA — The biggest news at Eagles' camp Tuesday came before practice when the team placed popular defensive end Joe Ostman on injured reserve with a torn ACL.

Ostman was carted off at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday night after going down in a special teams drill.

A dominant pass rusher in college at Central Michigan, Ostman went undrafted due to perceived size limitations but carved out a role on the practice squad and scout team by mimicking players like Aaron Donald, Cameron Jordan, and Khalil Mack.

Everyone from Jim Schwartz to Doug Pederson to Mike Groh noted how important Ostman was in helping others get prepared each and every week last season.

In the offseason general manager Howie Roseman noted how excited the organization was with Ostman's development and he was one of the stars early in camp often making life miserable for Jordan Mailata as the second-team left end. Schwartz had even begun tinkering with a joker look in which Ostman would be a stand-up pass pasher in order to get him on the field.

To replace Ostman on the 90-man roster the Eagles signed Kasim Edebali, 29, a native of Germany who played his college ball at Boston College.

An undersized OLB/DE hybrid, Edebali has spent time with New Orleans, Denver, Detroit, the LA Rams, Chicago, and Cincinnati, amassing 8 sacks over what has been a journeyman career.
