Egg Harbor Twp., NJ, teen injured by tow truck fights to recover

A 15-year-old Egg Harbor Township girl is facing the fight of her life after suffering traumatic injuries in a biking accident with a tow truck on May 8th.

Emily Davis was hit by a tow truck as she fell while riding her bicycle on Ocean Heights Avenue and is still in critical condition at Cooper University Hospital in Camden.

Emily suffered broken legs, a fractured pelvis, collapsed lungs, and other injuries, according to a GoFundMe set up to help her family with medical expenses.

The update says testing has shown that Emily was spared brain injuries.

While at Cooper, Emily has undergone surgery to repair her femoral artery and the blood flow to her leg, intestinal removal with replacement, and surgeries to insert plates and screw into her pelvis.

The GoFundMe update from Saturday, May 25th, says that Emily was able to sit briefly on the edge of her bed with some assistance.

The day after the accident, police determined that Davis had fallen into the path of the truck as she and the tow truck driver were heading north on Ocean Heights Avenue just south of Blackman Road.

The police investigation found that the tow truck driver was not impaired and did not hit the cyclist before she fell.

Davis is the youngest of three children. Her parents have been trying to comfort her and her brother and sister since the accident.

As of May 31, the GoFundMe for Emily Davis has raised a little over $19,000 of the $20,000 goal.
