The County of Atlantic, New Jersey has announced a necessary emergency maintenance schedule for the Dorset Avenue Bridge as follows:

Emergency mechanical repairs will begin on Monday, October 16, 2023 and the work is expected to take several weeks to complete.

The mechanical work will necessitate a lane shift pattern weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

You should expect minor traffic delays. The County of Atlantic advises that you plan your travel time with this in mind and perhaps consider taking an alternative route until the repair work is completed.

Sidewalk closures will also be in effect, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on a rotating basis (one side at a time).

The County of Atlantic advises that, “Signage will direct pedestrians to the open sidewalk. Pedestrians should cross Dorset Avenue using the designated crosswalks at the signalized intersections at Ventnor Avenue and at Monmouth Avenue.”

The Dorset Avenue Bridge is a vital throughway and the only way to navigate back-and-forth to and from Ventnor proper to Ventnor Heights.

Without this bridge, you would have to drive all the way to Atlantic City … go over the Peter Egnor Memorial Bridge in Albany Avenue … then to the mile stretch and then finally make your way into Ventnor Heights.

During the necessary emergency maintenance repairs, please be guided accordingly.
