Employee of Atlantic County, NJ, 2 Others Indicted in EBT Card Fraud Scheme

Three residents of Atlantic County, including one person who worked for the county, have been indicted in connection to an EBT card fraud scheme.

42-year-old Corie M. Pittman of Absecon was indicted on second-degree official misconduct and third-degree theft charges.

41-year-old Kelly N. Pittman of Egg Harbor Township and 41-year-old Robert D. Swaggerty of Pleasantville are each facing second-degree conspiracy to commit official misconduct and third-degree theft charges.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office says back in June of 2022, a local resident received her EBT card in the mail, which should have had $1,100 loaded onto that account. When the resident attempted to use the card, she learned it contained a mere $5.

At the time of the alleged theft, Pittman was employed by the Atlantic County Department of Family and Community Development. Part of her duties included processing and distributing EBT cards to eligible beneficiaries.

On June 2nd, 2022, video surveillance showed Pittman processing the EBT card in question and placing it in an envelope. Later footage showed her returning an empty envelope.

Two days later, Kelly Pittman, who is Corie Pittman’s sister, allegedly attempted to sell the EBT card but was unsuccessful.

Later that day, prosecutors say Pittman and Swaggerty made several purchases totaling around $1,100 at Walmart and ShopRite stores in Atlantic County, which left $5 remaining on that card.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
