Cape May's East Lynne Theater Company suffered a major setback Wednesday when a fire destroyed the West Cape May house they used as their office and performers' living quarters.

The theater company's performance space is at the First Presbyterian Church in Cape May, but this house in West Cape May served as the summer house for their artistic director and for many of the actors in town for the summer performance season just beginning.

East Lynne theater Company was founded in 1980 and, according to their website, was the first theater in the country with the unique mission of presenting and preserving America's theatrical heritage.

The New York Times listed ELTC as one of the 75 top summer theaters in North America.
