MIAMI — A woman from South Jersey was one of two people killed in a shooting at a Miami gym on Saturday.

Janine Ackerman, 35, of Miami was identified by the Miami-Dade Police Department as one of the targets of Abeku Wilson who returned to the Equinox fitness center in Coral Gables after being fired. Ackerman, the center's general manager, was fatally shot by Wilson along with employee Marios Hortis before Wilson shot himself the police said. One other person was injured in the shooting.

The Miami Herald reported that Ackerman was a native of Monroeville in Glouester County.

"Our team members, Janine Ackerman, Coral Gables General Manager, and Marios Hortis, our Coral Gables Tier X Manager, were beautiful souls lost way too soon. We send our love and condolences to their families and friends," Equinox owner Harvey Spevak posted on the club's Facebook page.

She also worked at the prestigious Fontainebleau hotel in Miami and several smaller hotels prior to the Equinox, according to her LinkedIn page.

Friend and former roommate Tracy Egan  told the newspaper Ackerman was "the greatest person."

Ackerman graduated from Michigan State in 2005 and earned a BS in Hospitality Management. She then earned her masters from Florida International University in 2009.
