Monroe Township, N.J. — A 99-year-old woman died after police say an 86-year-old Williamstown man drove through a red light and crashed into another vehicle at a Gloucester County intersection.

The crash happened at about 8:45 PM Wednesday at the intersection of the Black Horse Pike/Route 42 and Lake Avenue.

According to the Monroe Township Police Department, an 86-year-old Williamstown man driving a 2015 Honda CR-V was heading westbound on Lake Avenue when he entered the intersection against a red light. The Honda crossed the northbound lanes of Route 42 and into the southbound lanes, where it struck a 2019 white Mercedes-Benz E450 driven by a 49-year-old Williamstown woman who had a green light.

The Honda spun and hit a guardrail at the southwest corner of the intersection. The Mercedes rotated and came to rest facing north in the southbound lanes.

Both drivers were taken to Jefferson Hospital in Washington Township for treatment.

The crash is being investigated by Ofcs. Tom Scudder and Dacoda Leech with the Monroe Township Police Department. Any witnesses are asked to call (856) 728-9800.
